About the Artist

Sangeeta Mahajan 

Biography 

Sangeeta Mahajan is a Brisbane based art photographer, specialising in painterly, fine art portraiture and conceptual, narrative photography. In the manner of the early pictorial photographers of the 1800’s, Sangeeta’s evocative images establish compelling narratives through a focus on composition, tonality, atmosphere, and the psychological power of her tableaux-like, figurative arrangements.  

Through her carefully staged photographs and curated props and costumes, Mahajan explores what lies beneath the human skin - the subtle, unspoken twists and the angst of the heart and mind - reflecting the nuances of each person’s reality, their relationships, and their inner self.  Framing people in situ, she captures micro expressions and transient emotions, probing into the psychology of relationships that often remains unseen on the surface.  

While her post graduate qualifications in Literature and Management significantly influence her art, Sangeeta is completely self-taught in terms of photography.  

Her work has been published in numerous international magazines and has won multiple accolades in Australian and international fine art competitions.
